Trophy Club Sign Ordinance Amendments

On October 13, 2015, the Trophy Club Town Council approved amendments to the Town’s sign regulation ordinance that affects the use of signs/sign placement in Trophy Club. The Town regulates signs in order to provide a balanced system of signage throughout the town, help facilitate communication, promote public safety, minimize visual clutter and enhance property values and business opportunities within Trophy Club. On October 13, 2015, the Trophy Club Town Council approved amendments to the Town’s sign regulation ordinance that affects the use of signs/sign placement in Trophy Club.

The Town regulates signs in order to provide a balanced system of signage throughout the town, help facilitate communication, promote public safety, minimize visual clutter and enhance property values and business opportunities within Trophy Club. Sign regulations help maintain the Town’s attractive appearance for the betterment of the community.

General Rules:

    A. No signs can be erected or placed on private property including in the Public Right of Way (ROW) zoned for residential, including Home Owners Associations (HOA) without the written or verbal permission of the property owner.

    B. No signs can be erected or placed on private real property in the public ROW zoned for non-residential property without written permission of the property owner or person having control or custody over the property.

    C. No signs will be allowed on town medians, slip roads and ROW’s which include SH 114 and various small parcels of town owned/maintained land.

    D. An exception will be for a Special Event Permit approved by the Town.

    E. This ordinance applies to all types of signage: Real Estate, Political, Religious, and Commercial (bandit) signs.

    F. The owner of the property may remove and discard the sign placed on the property without permission.

Real Estate Signs:

    1. Off premise directional real estate signs are no longer permitted for either “Property for Sale or Rent” or an “Open House” preview in the Town.

    2. A house for sale is allowed one “For Sale” sign in the front yard. For a golf course lot, one additional “For Sale” sign is allowed facing the golf course.

    3. A “OPEN HOUSE” sign is permitted only on-premise the days of the open house and only on the property site that is for sale.

    4. Real estate “Sign Walkers” will be prohibited on all town owned medians and public ROWs.

Political Signs:

    Except for the changes as stated in the General Rules, the rules for political signs as to; number of signs, size, sign walkers and duration will remain the same.

Comment:

    We as a town are nearly built out and with modern GPS systems, the old school of advertising is quickly becoming a thing of the past. More importantly, the proliferation of RE signs has made for an unsightly look to the Town on weekends.
